What happened to the VW bus
First, I will tell about what happened to the VW bus. I had taken it in to got the Oregon registration and title. A few days before I had gotten insurance for it. So, I was ready to roll! It seemed to be running fine. Greg was working out of town, and I thought a little drive would be nice. I was enjoying the sunshine and breeze blowing in the window. I was on a paved road, but turned off onto a gravel road. It was only 2 more miles when a light came on. I think it was a battery light. I thought maybe I should get out to check the engine (even though I know nothing about them). Everything looked fine to me, but the engine smelled hot. I only had 2 more miles to go, so thought it would be fine. By the time I pulled into the driveway and turned off the engine smoke was rolling out.I started apologizing for not stopping when the light turned on, but Greg kept saying it wasn't my fault. When he fixed the engine (for the 2nd time) he welded a bolt (or something) on and it didn't hold.
When it was time to leave, he took off the fan (or something) and thought the cool air would be enough to keep the engine cool. After about 5 miles it started smoking bad. So, he pulled over and hooked ropes to the poor ole thing. If it wasn't ruined before that 5 miles did the job. I pulled Greg into town and then to our friends' house where all our other sick or dead vehicles are. We made it safely!
The engine is certainly fried, so we will park it until we decide to buy a new one.
this makes me sad
